Across the world glaciers are thawing at a swifter pace than at any period since records began, reports The Express. Researchers from the Glacier Monitoring Service, which follows 29 glaciers in eleven mountain ranges, approximate that between 1850 to 1968 glaciers receded at a median rate of 28 cm per year. From 1972 and 1998 losses rose to 65 – 80 cm a yr. Since then the norm has been more than 1m a year. The last season saw the highest recedings thus far of 1.3 meters.

Globally glaciers are disappearing at any rate as quickly as those in this small representative sample with potentially fateful results for close by villages. Soon there probably will be additional deluges, and in the not so distant future, water supplies could dry up, leading to keen water shortages.

Chamonix town, with its great no. of glaciers, the results of climate change and the retreating of glaciers will be noticeably found. Possibly this is why lots of firms, such as Ski Europe, and locals seem to be more cognizant of these issues and are therefore attempting to take measures to reduce their use of energy. With luck it isn’t too tardy to stem the effects of climate change and insure a future for our kids.
